A new study shows that women who have taken the antidepressant Paxil during their first trimester are at a greater risk for major birth defects. Researchers say that Paxil is linked to twice as many birth defects then any other antidepressant.

ACE Inhibitors May Boost Birth Defects
The FDA recommends that women who are taking ACE inhibitors to lower blood pressure should reconsider stopping before or during pregnancy. Studies show that taking the drug can increase the risk of birth defects.

Normal Newborn: Birth Injury
Birth injuries happen during labor and/or pregnancy. Some may be as a result of genetics or a specific harmful drug that was taken. Traumatic birth injuries can be consequential to a difficult labor or an accident that occurred by the medical staff involved. Hospitals Unit Found Liable In Birth Injury
A 12 year old girl that was born in Harlem Hospital Center in 1987 suffers from brain damage and other permanent injuries after her mother underwent 17 hours of labor where her umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck. As a result of the lack of oxygen to her body, she now lives with cerebral palsy and is confined to a wheel chair. A jury ruled on a $76.4 million verdict in favor of the victim and it's said to be the largest malpractice suit against the Health and Hospitals Corporation.

MALPRACTICE SUIT GIVES MILLIONS BUT NOT HOPE
Parents of a 3 year old girl won a $2.5 million verdict for a birth injury that occurred due to medical malpractice during pregnancy. The victim's mother was over a week late for her schedule delivery date and went to the hospital when she felt excruciating pain. The doctors dismissed her symptoms and she went home only to return later that day. As a result, the baby was born with cerebral palsy. From the hospital records, the baby had abnormalities in her tests which were ignored therefore the family received a large settlement to cope with the past and future affects of this tragedy.
